The University of Glasgow Veterinary School selects a Pukka-j solution for archiving and image retrieval.
The University of Glasgow, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine's Small Animal Hospital recently purchased a Pukka-j solution for archiving and image retrieval to enable vets and students to report on images acquired from CT, CR, ultrasound and a visiting mobile MRI scanner. In addition to providing a fully-featured reporting solution, the Pukka-j software allows students to select key images, delete any personal data and export the resulting anonymous images as jpegs or AVI's for use in presentations. The Pukka-j system supplied to the Faculty is seamlessly integrated with ExcelicareTM from Axsys Technology to provide a complete clinical record.
The use of digital images to enhance the diagnosis and treatment of diseases in dogs and cats has taken the Hospital a step forward providing state-of-the-art facilities, and the acquisition of Pukka-j's PACS greatly extends the speed and flexibility of working. Specialists from Oncology, Neurology, Internal Medicine and Diagnostic Imaging were recently trained on the new system. Dr. Mark Jackson, Deputy Dean states, "Our specialists were particularly impressed with the logical set-up and easy way images could be accessed and manipulated within the patient's record. Those features are especially critical in a large and busy referral and teaching hospital with a multitude of users that have widely different skill sets and needs." In an enthusiastic, off-the-cuff remark, Dr. Jackson concludes, "Impressive, it rocks and is fun to use!"
Pukka-j's Dicom Explorer PACS is a powerful yet cost effective web application for viewing reporting, archiving and management of all DICOM images of any modality. Its Image Store is limitlessly expandable to provide Enterprise-wide - and beyond - PACS with easy-to-use, secure email. The Dicom Explorer Image Archive can provide DICOM image archives of any size, with full resilience (no single point of failure). The system is equipped with full DICOM connectively and is easy to manage. The web viewer, which is also included, is able to run on any computer platform and provides Teleradiology.
The University of Glasgow's Veterinary School is pre-eminent in teaching, research and clinical provision to the UK veterinary sector. Its clinical services include the Small Animal Hospital, Equine Hospital and Companion Animal Diagnostics. The Small Animal Hospital, one of the busiest in the country, has outgrown its existing hospital building. At present, they continue to raise funds for ongoing construction of a new, much needed, £10m facility, with construction scheduled for completion in February 2009.
Pukka-j is a customer-focused company providing development and deployment of IT products and services to the healthcare sector. The company specialises in configuring its systems to the way that the NHS and independent providers need them to work; services can also be web-integrated where needed.
