PUKKA-J’S WEB-BASED RADIOLOGY SOLUTION SELECTED FOR NEW DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING CENTRE

Pukka-J’s pioneering web-based teleradiology application, Dicom Explorer ™, has been selected to provide the image viewing, reporting and imaging device connectivity tools for a new state-of-the-art diagnostic centre in High Wycombe.

The Mid and South Buckinghamshire NHS Diagnostic Centre is run on behalf of the NHS by Mercury Health, a UK Independent Sector Provider. The Pukka-J solution selected by Mercury Health facilitates fast and easy access to images for rapid diagnosis and subsequent commencement of treatment. Pukka-J's Dicom Explorer ™ technology will handle the images from approximately 15,000 diagnostic procedures each year, including echocardiograms, MRI, ultrasound and X-ray exams.

Lisa Holmes, IM&T Manager, Mercury Health, commented

This is an exciting and much needed development for the area that will reduce waiting times and improve services. We are pleased with the choice of Pukka-J as providers of a simple to use, yet very powerful software tool for image viewing, reporting and archiving. The speed and instant accessibility of the system is already proving its worth.

The new centre was created to improve services by providing an alternative to local hospitals for patients requiring routine access to diagnostic procedures. Pukka-J's Dicom technology was fully installed when the new centre opened in August, and is being used for the image archiving of all local radiology data from the diagnostic centre, sending it to Mercury Health's data centre. To meet Mercury Health's requirements, Pukka-J seamlessly integrated their product with the latest release of CRIS, the radiology information system from UK supplier HSS.

Dicom Explorer ™ is the latest intelligent web technology from Pukka-J. It is a powerful application for viewing, reporting, archiving and managing all Dicom images of any modality, and enables multiple studies to be displayed and manipulated simultaneously. Its component technology provides seamless integration and interoperability to communicate with all other digital healthcare systems. With its modular design, Dicom Explorer ™ can be customised to meet the requirements of any imaging department.

The Mid and South Buckinghamshire NHS Diagnostic Centre is funded by three local Primary Care Trusts, Chiltern & South Bucks, Vale of Aylesbury and Wycombe and is situated in the Cressex Business Park in High Wycombe. Patients using the new centre remain under the care of their local NHS GPs, who refer them directly to the centre rather than having to go through a consultant.
