3.1 Getting Started
- If you have used Dicom Explorer demo before please click the start demo button. *
- If you have not used our demo before please read through the following on how to get started. *
- If at any stage you require assistance please contact us. *
- Please be patient the first time you visit the desktop site as there can be questions to answer and a Java plug-in to install.
Dicom Explorer
To use dicom explorer you are required to use the following Internet Option settings:
Before getting started you may need to check your Internet Options, as specific 'signed active X' components and 'scripting' must be enabled Browser Settings -Internet Explorer Browser
You must set the browser security to Medium. To do this follow the instructions below:
- Click on the tools menu option
- Scroll down to Internet Options
- Click on the Security tab
- In the Security page you select 'Custom Level'
- Reset to Medium
Or
- Scroll through the options and
- select 'Enable' for the following components
- Signed ActiveX
- Scripting Safe ActiveX
- JavaScript
Java Plug-in -
- Java Virtual Machine Plug-In Version 1.3
For dicom explorer to run, you will need to have the Java Virtual Machine plug-in installed:
- First time users may require a Java Plug-In.
- DICOM Explorer automatically detects the need to install the Plug-In.
- The installation is a simple procedure and uses standard Windows installation screens.
- The Java download is a 5 Mb file and download time can vary depending on connection speed.
- Once installed and activated you will not need to repeat the process.
Dicom Explorer Interface -Working with Dicom Explorer at pukka-j.net
The Dicom Explorer user interface consists of a number of windows that can be displayed in a web browser.
- A security alert window will appear, select OK.
- Select 'yes' to the security information panel.
- The Dicom Explorer start panel will appear (see fig:1)
- If the software has an update this process will start automatically .
- You may have to wait a short while for the software to be updated.

- A Digital Certificate will appear.
- Select the option 'Grant this session' or 'Grant Always'(see Fig:2)

- The log-in panel will appear (see Fig:3)
- The account name and password is for registered users only.
- Demo users log in as:
- Account name: demo
- Password: dicomex
- Now press the 'Log on' button to proceed.

- The Dicom Explorer user interface (see Fig: 4)
- On loading the interface the default page is 'Cases'.
- 'Cases' is the patient/study list screen.
- Demo users are presented with a selection of demonstration data.
- To open the series, double click on a study or click the '+' sign.
- The list of available DICOM data will be expanded.
- To view the image double click.
- Only tools that are relevant to the modality will be functional the rest remain greyed out.
